What each board is

CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) is India's largest national board. Its syllabus leads directly into national entrance exams — JEE for engineering, NEET for medicine. Most Kendriya Vidyalayas and many private schools follow it.

ICSE (Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations) is known for depth in English and a broad, project-heavy curriculum. Assessment rewards writing and expression, not only right answers.

UP Board (Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad) is the state board. Fees at UP Board schools are usually the lowest. Hindi-medium options are widest. The syllabus aligns with state scholarship and recruitment exams.

1. Will your family move cities?

If a transfer is likely, CBSE is the safe choice. A CBSE child can join a CBSE school in any state mid-year with the least friction.

2. What is the goal after Class 12?

JEE and NEET follow the NCERT syllabus, which is CBSE's core. ICSE students take these exams too, but they bridge a gap. For humanities, law or study abroad, ICSE's English rigour helps.

3. What is your fee budget?

Ask for the full annual figure: tuition, transport, books, activity fees. A board is a twelve-year commitment. A fee that strains you in Class 1 breaks you in Class 9.

4. Which language does your child think in?

A child taught in a language they don't speak at home learns the language, not the subject, for the first few years. UP Board and many CBSE schools offer Hindi medium. ICSE is English-first.

5. How strong is the actual school?
