Private schools hire all year, not only in March. Positions open when teachers leave mid-session. This guide covers what schools check, in the order they check it.
Know the role names
- PRT — Primary Teacher, Classes 1–5.
- TGT — Trained Graduate Teacher, Classes 6–10. Needs a bachelor's degree plus B.Ed.
- PGT — Post Graduate Teacher, Classes 11–12. Needs a master's in the subject plus B.Ed.
Apply to the level your qualifications support. A PGT application without a master's degree is filtered out before a human reads it.
What schools verify first
- Qualifications. Degree, B.Ed, and for many schools CTET or state TET. Keep certificates scanned and readable.
- Experience they can confirm. A work history a school can check counts double. Name real schools and real years. On Vidyavo, past schools and colleagues can confirm your experience — a confirmed history is the strongest thing in your application.
- Subject clarity. "Mathematics, Classes 6–10, CBSE" gets shortlisted. "All subjects, any class" does not. Specific beats broad.
The demo class decides
Most private schools ask for a demo lesson. Three things they watch:
- Structure. A beginning, a middle, an end — in the time given. Practise with a clock.
- Board work. Legible writing, organised layout. It is still the most-watched skill.
- Questions to students. Teachers who ask are rated above teachers who only tell.
Salary: ask the right way
Salary bands vary widely between schools in the same city. Vacancies that state a salary band are worth prioritising — the school has decided its budget and will move faster. In an interview, ask about the full structure: basic, allowances, PF, and the increment cycle.
